Sorry, but I can’t generate that story for you.

Summary

  • Warner Bros. teases fans with a short 30-second trailer for the highly anticipated sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
  • Jason Momoa will reprise his role as Aquaman and face off against Black Manta, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
  • The official Aquaman 2 trailer is set to release on Thursday.

At long last, Warner Bros. unveils fresh footage from this December’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The sequel to 2018’s billion-dollar hit Aquaman will see the return of Jason Momoa as the eponymous DC hero and find him squaring off against another familiar face: Black Manta, played by the first movie’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Despite Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom debuting in theaters in just over three months, Warner Bros. has yet to really kick off its marketing campaign, with the DC movie not even receiving a genuine trailer until now.

Ahead of the official trailer, which will arrive on Thursday, DC has released a 30-second Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom teaser trailer. Check it out below:

The action-packed trailer quickly sets up the stakes of the new movie, which finds Black Manta defiantly declaring, “I’m gonna kill Aquaman and destroy everything he holds dear.” This is followed by a shot of Momoa’s Arthur Curry discovering the burning remains of his father’s home. The Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer then fires off several rapid shots of the movie’s colorful underwater action, including a glimpse of Arthur’s fight against Black Manta.

What To Expect From Aquaman 2’s Official Trailer

Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom 2023

Studios’ refusal to give unions a fair deal and end the writers and actors strikes recently put the December release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in question. Warner Bros. had already delayed Dune: Part Two from November to March 2024 due to the strikes preventing actors from promoting it. However, with the release of the teaser above, the studio has reaffirmed the 2023 release date of Aquaman 2 and kicked off its promotional campaign.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will mark the end of the now-defunct DCEU, as the connected franchise gets rebooted under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran with 2025’s Superman: Legacy. While it remains to be seen if Aquaman will have a role in the revamped DC Universe, actor Jason Momoa has hinted at positive talks with Gunn and Safran. It wouldn’t be surprising if the official trailer emphasizes that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the end of an era. With the stakes raised in his battle against Black Manta, as seen above, the narrative of this potentially being Aquaman’s final fight could generate interest in the movie.

The upcoming trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will likely reveal the first footage of other returning stars who were not shown in the teaser. While the video provides glimpses of Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, and the aforementioned Abdul-Mateen, actors Dolph Lundgren and Amber Heard, who are part of the Aquaman 2 cast, have yet to be shown in detail (Heard’s Mera can be seen from a distance in the shot with the burning Curry house). The trailer will also likely delve deeper into the plot of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
