Get ready for an exciting addition to MGM+’s streaming platform! The highly anticipated series Beacon 23, based on Hugh Howey’s captivating tale about a space lighthouse, is coming your way. Created by Zak Penn, the show was originally intended for Spectrum Originals but has found its new home on MGM+.
But here’s the real scoop: the incredible Lena Headey, known for her iconic role in Game of Thrones (pictured above), takes on the lead as a “government agent” who finds herself in a thrilling test of wills with a lighthouse keeper.
Headey’s character, Aster, embarks on a journey to the mysterious Beacon 23, managed by an AI and a stoic ex-military man named Halan, played by Stephan James. As reported by Variety, Halan begins to question whether Aster is friend or foe, as her hidden agenda and motives could make her a formidable opponent.
This intriguing premise leaves us craving for more, eagerly awaiting the release of a trailer. The book summary, which revolves around these space beacons, adds to the mystery:
For centuries, men and women have manned lighthouses to ensure the safe passage of ships. It is a lonely job, and a thankless one for the most part. Until something goes wrong. Until a ship is in distress. In the twenty-third century, this job has moved into outer space. A network of beacons allows ships to travel across the Milky Way at many times the speed of light. These beacons are built to be robust. They never break down. They never fail. At least, they aren’t supposed to.
While the anticipation builds, it’s worth noting that Zak Penn, the series creator, shares showrunning duties with Glen Mazzara from The Walking Dead. With such talent behind the scenes, we can expect an incredible show.
Mark your calendars for November 12th, when the beacon lights up and Beacon 23 takes off!
