The Flash‘s Dawn of DC relaunch picks up where the previous series left off, but with a thrilling new twist. Brace yourself for a horror-themed adventure like never before.
Cosmic horror takes center stage in the mind of new Flash writer Si Spurrier. With a background in 2000 AD and Warhammer 40K, Spurrier brings a fresh and unexpected perspective to this iconic superhero comic. Prepare to be captivated by this new take on the Fastest Man Alive.

In this exciting new series, Wally West faces the challenge of balancing his roles as a family man and a superhero. Even for someone with the ability to be in two places at once, this is no easy task. To make matters worse, Wally is plagued by nightmares connected to the Speed Force that grants him his powers. These nightmares serve as a warning of an impending threat known as The Uncoiled.
The New Flash Offers More Horror Than Heroics
Spurrier’s story provides an enticing entry point for new readers, while also delving deeper into the family drama that defined the previous Flash series. Alongside the ongoing journey of the West children mastering their powers, we witness the struggles of mother Linda Park-West as she copes with the loss of her superspeed gained during pregnancy.

Spurrier’s compelling scripts are brought to life by the talented artist Mike Deodato Jr. Known for his darker aesthetic, Deodato Jr. adds a unique visual flair to the Flash. With the vibrant color art of Trish Mulvihill, this first issue is a feast for the eyes, and the action flows seamlessly.
Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou’s lettering deserves special recognition, as each character’s dialogue is presented in a distinct and captivating manner. Linda Park’s thought process, in particular, is beautifully portrayed through typed text. The only minor quibble is that twins Jai and Irey appear more like teenagers than elementary school-age kids.
This new Flash book has quickly established itself as something truly extraordinary. It continues the story from the previous volume while infusing the Speed Force mythology with cosmic horror. This alone makes it a standout addition to the series. Let’s hope it finds the audience it deserves.
