When it comes to Transformers, Ratchet has certainly come a long way. While some Autobots were already fully formed, Ratchet’s original figure looked more like a vehicle than a robot. But thanks to the cartoon, he became more humanoid in his alternate mode. However, in the movies, he was given a neon green makeover because, well, why not? In a Michael Bay film, even an ambulance needs to stand out.
Fire and Rescue
Despite his evolving appearance, Ratchet remained the Autobots’ trusted medic. As a medical Hummer, he could easily navigate off-road to reach emergencies faster. Unlike other Autobots who disappeared without explanation, Ratchet stayed until Age of Extinction. Unfortunately, his unwavering loyalty to Optimus Prime led to his demise at the hands of bounty hunter Lockdown. Alongside Jazz and Ironhide, Ratchet is one of the few classic Autobots to meet an onscreen death.
Takara and Hasbro have released a new masterpiece figure of Ratchet based on his appearance in the third film, Dark of the Moon. This highly detailed figure offers a 61-step transformation process and features articulated hands, a moveable mouth, and accessories like missiles, a buzzsaw, and a laser cannon. Created using the actual digital files from the movie, the figure boasts 35 points of articulation, diecast parts, and original Japanese instructions. Interestingly, the transformation places the buzzsaw weapon where the vehicle’s spare tire would be.
You can now pre-order the figure for $169.99 on Hasbro Pulse, with shipping estimated for June. Take a look at more official images below:
