Are you a tabletop fan looking for a thrilling game that combines horror and roleplay? Look no further than Death Sentence! Created by the talented team of Guilherme Sassaki, Leo Andrade, and Luana Bibiano, this narrative-focused horror RPG is now available on itch.io. It’s like stepping into your favorite slasher movie, where you can either embrace or subvert the genre’s tropes.
A session of Death Sentence lasts around 2-5 hours and follows a 3-act structure. The game is designed for 1 Narrator and 3 to 5 players. The Narrator controls the world, nonplayer characters (NPCs), and the Threat. Each player gets to control 2 to 3 Player Characters, who are almost certain to meet their demise. But don’t worry, having extra characters allows you to take bold risks and make the game more interesting.
The Threat can be anything you can imagine, as long as it’s deadly and hard to kill. From owl-people to fungal zombies and crazed killers, the main objective is to figure out how to escape or destroy the Threat.
In Death Sentence, the action resolution system is simple yet exciting. Players roll pools of d6s based on their character’s Action Attributes, Traits, Relationships, and current circumstances. “Circumstances” include the environment, their Injury status, and any creative ideas they come up with for their character. Players can spend Drama Points to gain more dice or reroll failures. Keep in mind that PCs have a Panic score that increases in response to traumatizing events. Rolling poorly on this score can lead to disaster, but it also keeps the tension high.
The base game of Death Sentence is available now as a pdf (with a booklet option for print) for $7.50 USD. And here’s some good news: there’s a launch discount available until November 1, just in time for a Halloween one-shot session.
But wait, there’s more! Leo Andrade will be running a session of Death Sentence on Stillfleet’s Twitch channel on October 28th at 2 PM EST. Don’t miss out on this thrilling experience!
