Get ready for a thrilling reboot from Lionsgate and director Renny Harlin! The first chapter of the new trilogy, The Strangers: Chapter 1, is set to hit theaters on May 17, 2024.
As we eagerly anticipate the release of a new trailer, let’s get into the Valentine’s Day spirit with a sneak peek social media teaser below…
Word on the street is that The Strangers: Chapter 1 is a fresh take on the original 2008 movie. The subsequent sequels, Chapter 2 and Chapter 3, promise to chart a unique course.
The star-studded cast includes Madelaine Petsch from “Riverdale”, Froy Gutierrez of Hocus Pocus 2 fame, Rachel Shenton from The Silent Child, Ema Horvath of “Rings of Power”, and Gabe Basso from Hillbilly Elegy.
Building on the legacy of the original 2008 cult horror franchise, the plot revolves around Petsch’s character who embarks on a cross-country journey with her longtime boyfriend (Gutierrez) to start anew in the Pacific Northwest. Their car breaks down in Venus, Oregon, forcing them to spend the night in a remote Airbnb. What follows is a night of terror as they are stalked by three masked strangers from dusk till dawn.
The film is directed by Renny Harlin, known for his work on Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea, and Die Hard 2. The script is penned by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, the duo behind The Freak Brothers and Due Date. Lionsgate will handle worldwide distribution.
The original The Strangers franchise kicked off in 2008 with Bryan Bertino’s spine-chilling home invasion horror movie. The terrifying trio of masked killers made a comeback a decade later in The Strangers: Prey at Night in 2018. While the first film was set in a remote house in the woods, the sequel saw the killers wreaking havoc in a trailer park.
