Caleb Landry Jones Cast as Dracula in Luc Besson’s Forthcoming Origin Story Film

Acclaimed filmmaker Larry Fessenden, known for his work on Habit and Depraved, is back in the spotlight with his latest werewolf horror flick, Blackout. The much-anticipated official trailer has been released today, along with details about the movie’s release.

Dark Sky Films is set to premiere this contemporary werewolf thriller in New York City theaters on March 13, before making it available for a broader audience on Digital/VOD platforms starting April 12, 2024.

The film will enjoy an exclusive one-week theatrical run at the IFC Center in NYC starting March 13th, featuring special appearances by the cast and a Q&A session.

Blackout marks the second successful collaboration between Glass Eye Pix, Fessenden’s New York-based production company, and Yellow Veil Pictures. Their previous joint venture was Fessenden’s 2019 film Depraved, which was released by IFC Midnight in the US.

The narrative of the film revolves around Charley (Alex Hurt), a small-town artist and a tormented soul. His alcohol-fueled escapades blur with his growing suspicion that he might be a werewolf. As he isolates himself from his loved ones, his gruesome nocturnal acts start to manifest in his artwork.

Blackout is the third installment in Fessenden’s monster trilogy, following Habit (vampires) and Depraved (Frankenstein). The film continues Fessenden’s exploration of the monstrous side of human nature, brought to life with impressive practical effects. The cast includes Addison Timlin, James LeGros, Kevin Corrigan, Barbara Crampton, Joe Swanberg, and many more.

Larry Fessenden, the winner of the 1997 Someone to Watch Spirit Award and a celebrated New York-based filmmaker and actor, is the founder and CEO of Glass Eye Pix. He is renowned for producing Kelly Reichardt’s River of Grass (1994) and Wendy and Lucy (2003), Ti West’s first four features, and dozens of other acclaimed indie films. His directorial credits include the psychological horror Wendigo (2001) and the Ron Perlman-led The Last Winter (2006). He has also appeared in over 100 films, including Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon.

Blackout is produced by Fessenden, along with his long-time collaborator James Felix McKenney, indie film veteran Chris Ingvordsen, and co-produced by newcomer Gaby Leyner.

Fessenden shares, “I am interested in finding new truths in the classic monster tropes of my youth. The essence of each creature dictates the milieu of the film, and of course, the werewolf is both out of control and regretful so that duality shaped my story. I am excited to work with Yellow Veil again, they understand my filmmaking and have been fierce advocates.”
