Sam Raimi Expresses Desire to Helm Avengers: Secret Wars

There’s been a buzz in the air about the possibility of Sam Raimi taking the director’s chair for the 2027 film Avengers: Secret Wars. And guess what? Raimi himself is thrilled at the prospect!

In a recent chat with ScreenGeek at the annual WonderCon, Raimi addressed the swirling rumors about his potential involvement in the film. He expressed his admiration for the Marvel universe and revealed that, although he hasn’t received an official invitation yet, he’d jump at the chance.

“I’m a huge fan of the Marvel heroes that I’ve encountered in the legendary Stan Lee’s Marvel Universe comic books – I’d say about 90% of them,” Raimi shared. “I’d be over the moon to collaborate with Marvel again. They haven’t approached me yet, but I’m hopeful. I’d like to think they enjoyed working with me. I’m eagerly waiting for that call.”

Raimi is no newcomer to the Marvel cinematic landscape. He’s the mastermind behind the original Spider-Man trilogy from the early 2000s and also directed the 2022 hit, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Initially slated for a 2025 release, the Secret Wars film is now expected to hit the big screen in 2027.

So, when can we expect Avengers: Secret Wars to hit the theaters?

Hot on the heels of Avengers 5, which is set to premiere on May 1, 2026, Secret Wars is scheduled to make its grand entrance on May 7, 2027. As of now, both films are on the lookout for directors, especially after Shang-Chi’s Destin Daniel Cretton announced his departure from Avengers 5.

Secret Wars, the sixth installment in the Avengers series, is anticipated to wrap up Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 6 and The Multiverse Saga. Fans are on tenterhooks for news about a live-action adaptation of the iconic comic book series. The storyline involves various Marvel heroes and villains whisked away by a cosmic entity known as The Beyonder to a planet named Battleworld, where an epic battle ensues.
