Over the past year, Tony Stark’s life has taken some unexpected twists and turns. From a faux marriage to Emma Frost that might have blossomed into something genuine, to his surprising ascension as the Black King of a new Hellfire Club, Tony’s journey has been anything but ordinary. But the most shocking development yet unfolds in Invincible Iron Man #17.

Invincible Iron Man #17, penned by Gerry Duggan and illustrated by Patch Zircher, finds our hero Tony Stark in a precarious situation. On the bright side, his strategy to combat the enhanced Sentinels of Orchis with a colossal mecha was largely triumphant. However, the Mark 73 Sentinel Buster depleted its power much quicker than expected, leaving the Sentinel army not entirely vanquished.
Iron Man is left to navigate his way out of a rapidly malfunctioning labyrinth of metal. This would be a formidable challenge even without the added complication of a concussion causing him to hallucinate. To make matters worse, Tony’s adversary Feilong, who pilfered his company and technology to construct the new Sentinels, is also ensnared in the giant mecha with him.

Adding to the chaos, it’s revealed that the artificial intelligences controlling Orchis have turned against their human creators. Now, the humans who established Orchis are in as much peril as the Mutants and their allies. But just when all hope seems lost, an unlikely hero emerges.
Iron Man and Magneto Join Forces to Save Humanity
The comic concludes with Magneto swooping in to rescue Iron Man and combat the remaining Stark Sentinels. This is laced with irony, considering Tony Stark’s recurring nightmares of perishing in a battle against Magneto. In fact, one of his earlier hallucinations in the issue depicted a vengeful Magneto ending his life.

Magneto’s arrival adds another layer of irony. Known for his past as a terrorist who showed little concern for human casualties as long as Mutants survived, it’s quite a twist to see Magneto stepping in to save someone like Iron Man. However, recent events suggest that the Master of Magnetism might be on a path towards genuine heroism.
