Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Secures Season 4, Lower Decks Set to Conclude Following Season 5

Exciting news for Trekkies! Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set to boldly go into a fourth season, while the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks will be wrapping up after its fifth season.

According to Variety, the official green light has been given for a fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

The creators of Strange New Worlds, Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Alex Kurtzman, expressed their excitement, saying, “We are over the moon and deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue our cosmic journey together. We can’t wait for you to hop aboard the Enterprise for another season of exploration and thrilling adventures.”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which premiered in 2022, boasts a stellar cast including Anson Mount as Christopher Pike, Ethan Peck as Spock, Jess Bush as Christine Chapel, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura, and many more.

The second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds took off in June 2023, and the third season is set to launch in 2025.

The Final Frontier for Star Trek: Lower Decks

Star Trek: Lower Decks, the animated spin-off that first hit screens in 2020, has enjoyed a successful four-season run, with the latest season wrapping up in November 2023. The fifth and final season is slated for release this fall.

Despite the show’s conclusion, creators Kurtzman and showrunner Mike McMahon remain optimistic, saying, “We remain hopeful that even beyond Season 5, Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford, and the entire Cerritos crew will continue to live on in new adventures. While reaching five seasons in today’s TV landscape feels like a miracle, it’s no exaggeration to say that every moment we’ve spent crafting this show has been a dream come true.”

Jeff Grossman, the executive vice president of programming for Paramount+, chimed in, “It has been an absolute joy to expand the Star Trek universe, and we’re so grateful to Secret Hideout and our incredibly talented casts and producers. Strange New Worlds has perfectly captured the essence of action, adventure, and humor. Likewise, Star Trek: Lower Decks has consistently delivered laughs and heart throughout its four seasons. We can’t wait for audiences to see what the final season has in store for the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos.”
