Exciting news for sci-fi fans! Sigourney Weaver, a name synonymous with the genre, is in the midst of negotiations to join the cast of the much-anticipated The Mandalorian & Grogu. The film is slated for release on Friday, May 22, 2026.
As per The Insneider (subscription required but highly recommended), the three-time Academy Award nominee is in discussions to be a part of the upcoming Star Wars movie. The role that the legendary Ellen Ripley actress will portray in Star Wars remains a mystery. Weaver’s participation is not yet confirmed, as the final agreement is still in the works.
What’s the scoop on The Mandalorian & Grogu?
The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to take the narrative from the popular Disney+ series to the cinema. The plot details are being kept hush-hush for this first Star Wars movie featuring Pedro Pascal, who embodies The Mandalorian. The film will be produced by Jon Favreau, who will also be in the director’s chair, with Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni joining him in the production team.
“The Mandalorian’s adventures through the Star Wars galaxy continue. Once a solitary bounty hunter, Din Djarin has now reunited with Grogu,” reveals the synopsis for the third season of the series. “As the New Republic grapples with guiding the galaxy away from its dark past, The Mandalorian will encounter familiar allies and face new adversaries as he and Grogu continue their shared journey.”
The series is brought to you by executive producers Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, Karen Gilchrist, and Carrie Beck. Favreau has also served as the showrunner and one of the directors for the third season. The first three seasons are currently available for streaming on Disney+.
