Exciting news for Marvel fans! A writer has been selected for the highly anticipated X-Men movie.
According to Deadline, Michael Lesslie is in talks to pen the script for the upcoming MCU X-Men film. Lesslie is no stranger to the world of screenwriting, having worked on the scripts for 2015’s Macbeth, 2016’s Assassin’s Creed, and the upcoming 2023 release of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.
His portfolio doesn’t stop there. Lesslie is also involved in several other forthcoming projects, including Aneil Karia’s adaptation of Hamlet and the third installment of Now You See Me.
Marvel Studios’ head honcho, Kevin Feige, is set to produce the film. While the cast is yet to be announced and a director is still to be attached, the plot details are being kept under tight wraps.
As Deadline points out, “Even with Leslie officially on board, it will still be a while before we see the movie hit the big screen. The hunt is now on for a director to join forces with Feige and Leslie in bringing this project to life.”
The MCU already has a taste of Mutants
Since The Walt Disney Company’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019, mutants have been gradually making their way into the MCU. Notably, Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel was unveiled as a mutant in the 2022 Ms. Marvel miniseries, and Namor was the featured villain in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Moreover, Patrick Stewart reprised his iconic role as Charles Xavier in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, while Kelsey Grammer’s Beast made a surprise appearance in the post-credit scene of 2023’s The Marvels.
Up next in the Marvel lineup is Deadpool & Wolverine, which will officially introduce the wisecracking Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) into the MCU, teaming up with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) for a fresh mission. Directed by Free Guy’s Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine is set to hit US theaters on July 26, 2024.
