Eric Kripke, the mastermind behind The Boys: Mexico, has spilled the beans on the much-anticipated spin-off series.
In a candid chat with Entertainment Weekly, Kripke, the creator of The Boys series, hinted that fans might have to wait a bit longer before The Boys: Mexico takes flight.
“We’re still in the process of finalizing the deal with the writer for the pilot,” he revealed. “His pitch is mind-blowing, and we can’t help but chuckle and fantasize about how exciting it would be. However, there are several obstacles to overcome before it becomes a full-fledged show. He needs to craft an extraordinary pilot, and probably an equally impressive second episode. I have faith in his abilities, but we’re still some way off from embedding the Easter eggs and laying the groundwork.”
So, what’s the scoop on The Boys: Mexico?
Back in November 2023, Deadline broke the news that Amazon MGM Studios was cooking up a new spin-off series to The Boys, tentatively named The Boys: Mexico.
Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, the scribe behind Blue Beetle, was chosen as the creator, writer, and executive producer. Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal are also on board as executive producers. Rumor has it that Luna and Bernal were contemplating acting roles in the series, but updates have been scarce since then.
As for the storyline of The Boys: Mexico, it’s being kept under tight wraps for now.
Meanwhile, The Boys’ fourth season is set to hit Amazon Prime Video on June 13, 2024. A second season of Gen V is also brewing.
When asked about the slew of spin-off series currently in development, Kripke stated, “I don’t want viewers to feel obligated to watch one [show] to comprehend the other. It should never feel like a chore or compulsory viewing. I believe this approach has somewhat backfired for Marvel, and I don’t want to replicate that. I want you to enjoy both shows. Understanding the backstory certainly enhances your viewing experience, but it’s not a prerequisite.”
