Are you ready to question reality? Can you discern who to trust? The mind-bending sci-fi thriller Coherence by director James Ward Byrkit took us on a wild ride in 2013, and now, a sequel is in the works.
According to Deadline, Byrkit and producer Kate Andrews (It’s What’s Inside) are joining forces to create a follow-up to Coherence, with Byrkit once again at the helm as writer and director.
As Deadline exclusively reveals, the plot details are shrouded in mystery. Will it be a prequel, a sequel, or an entirely new narrative? Only time will tell.
Byrkit will be crafting the screenplay in collaboration with Alex Manugian.
Byrkit shared with Deadline, “Ever since the release of the film, I’ve been flooded with sequel pitches and remake offers. However, nothing truly sparked our interest until Kate Andrews sent me an email with two words that opened the creative floodgates. Either Kate is a genius, or she’s from a parallel reality where Alex and I have already written this, and she’s pitching us our own movie.”
In Coherence, a comet’s passage during a dinner party among eight friends triggers a bizarre series of events. As Meagan Navarro aptly put it on Bloody Disgusting, “Coherence is a cerebral sci-fi thriller that uses a less-is-more approach, manipulating time to weave a mind-bending story that explores how our decisions shape our identities.”
Navarro further elaborates on the film, “The choices made by these characters are as exasperating as they are intriguing. With Emily Baldoni in the lead role, relationships crumble under the strain of reality’s fluidity, creating a tense and unsettling atmosphere. If you love unraveling mysteries, this film is a must-watch.”
