“Turbo Kid” and “Summer of 84” Filmmakers to Release New Horror Movie “Wake Up” This Year

Get ready for a cinematic extravaganza! The Tribeca Film Festival 2024, brought to you by OKX, is back this week, packed with a plethora of new genre premieres, retrospectives, and thrilling events. Taking place from June 5-16 in the heart of New York City, this year’s festival is set to showcase a blend of emerging talent from around the world and established industry names.

For all the horror aficionados out there, anticipate buzzworthy titles like The Devil’s Bath, a chilling creation from filmmakers Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala. But the horror doesn’t stop there! The festival will also feature the premiere of AMFAD: All My Friends Are Dead, along with special presentations of classics from the masters of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock and Tod Browning.

A Frame Tribeca

Presenting The A-Frame, a world premiere from the United States. This sci-fi comedy, directed and written by Calvin Lee Reeder, revolves around a quantum physicist whose machine accidentally opens a portal to a subatomic universe, leading to a groundbreaking cancer treatment. As human trials commence, the stakes escalate.

'All My Friends Are Dead' - Filming Begins on Our Airbnb Slasher Starring JoJo Siwa and Jade Pettyjohn!

Next up is AMFAD: All My Friends Are Dead, a world premiere from the United States. This film gives a fresh and raucous spin to slasher cinema, as a group of young friends staying at an Airbnb fall prey to a killer whose elaborate murder set pieces are inspired by the seven deadly sins. Directed by Marcus Dunstan and produced by John Baldecci, Sarah Donnelly, Kirk Shaw.

Beacon

Introducing Beacon, a world premiere from the United States. This film follows a young sailor who, after a solo trip leaves her shipwrecked on a remote island, is rescued by its lone inhabitant: a lighthouse keeper. As reality begins to blur and trust unravels, survival becomes a grueling test. Directed by Roxy Shih and produced by Neil Elman.

Why we’re excited: With isolation, paranoia, and The Nun‘s Demián Bichir, this film promises to be an atmospheric creepfest.

The Damned

Don’t miss The Damned, a world premiere from the UK, Iceland, Ireland, and Belgium. When a ship sinks near her isolated fishing post, Eva is faced with a choice: rescue the shipwrecked or survive the winter. As guilt sets in, the fishermen believe they are being punished for their choices. Directed by Thordur Palsson.

A Desert

Experience the thrill of A Desert, a world premiere from the United States. This unpredictable and horror-tinged neo-noir knockout follows a photographer who, while on a road trip, befriends a young couple whose reckless ways turn his world into a nightmare. Directed by Joshua Erkman.

The Devil's Bath

Lastly, we have The Devil’s Bath, an international premiere from Austria and Germany. Set in 18th century Austria, the film follows newlywed Agnes, who is deeply religious but also plagued by evil thoughts. When an executed woman is displayed for all to see, Agnes looks upon her with both pity and longing. Directed and written by Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz.

Why we’re excited: From the creators of The Lodge and Goodnight Mommy, this promises to be their bleakest film yet.

North by Northwest

North by Northwest 70mm Restoration (United States). Experience the thrill of Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece, starring Cary Grant as an innocent man mistaken for a spy. This heart-pounding thriller takes you on a wild chase across North America, as Grant’s character, Roger Thornhill, is pursued by both espionage agents and the police.

North By Northwest (1959) was filmed in VistaVision and released in 1.85. Warner Bros.

The original 8-perf 35mm VistaVision camera negative was scanned in 13k, with all restoration work completed in 6.5k. The 70mm film print was created at Fotokem by filming out a new 65mm negative. This newly restored version has been approved by the Film Foundation.

The Unknown, (United States).
