There’s been another shakeup in the director’s chair for the MCU Blade movie. The latest news reveals that Yann Demange, a seasoned hand from Lovecraft Country, has stepped away from the project.
According to The Wrap, Demange’s departure happened “a while ago,” following the exit of the first director, Bassam Tariq. The split was reportedly “amicable,” with Marvel prioritizing the quality of the film over rushing its production.
The script for the MCU Blade movie is currently in the capable hands of Eric Pearson, known for his work on The Fantastic Four. Earlier drafts were penned by Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto, and Michael Green. The project has seen numerous changes in its cast and crew over its development period.
Who was the first choice to direct the MCU Blade movie?
The production of Blade has faced a stormy journey over the past two years, with former director Bassim Tariq leaving in 2022. Initially slated for a November 3, 2023 release, the movie’s premiere has been pushed back twice, now landing on November 7, 2025. The film will feature Mahershala Ali and Mia Goth, who is rumored to be portraying the character of Lilith.
Blade fans will remember Wesley Snipes’ iconic portrayal of the Daywalker in the New Line Cinema Blade trilogy from the late ’90s to early 2000s. Kirk “Sticky Fingaz” Jones took on the role in the 2006 Spike TV series. Most recently, Michael Jai White lent his voice to the character in the 2022 Marvel’s Midnight Suns video game.
