Throughout her extensive existence, Raven Darkholme has donned many hats – a spy, an assassin, and even a terrorist. However, the collapse of Krakoa witnessed the metamorphosing Mystique embracing two fresh roles – a wife and a mother. But to safeguard her newfound life, Raven must plunge back into the shadowy depths of the Marvel Universe. She embarks on this journey in a brand-new solo miniseries, a part of the X-Men From the Ashes revival.
The innovative Mystique series is the brainchild of the talented writer and artist, Declan Shalvey. Marvel Comics enthusiasts will recognize them from their remarkable work on Moon Knight and Dead Man Logan. They have also gained recognition for their writing and cover designs for the recent ThunderCats revival by Dynamite Entertainment.
“Mystique is undeniably one of the most intriguing characters to emerge from the Marvel Universe,” Shalvey expressed. “Having the chance to leave my mark on such an iconic character and spotlight her in her own series is an extraordinary privilege. As a die-hard X-fan since my childhood, I’m thoroughly enjoying channeling all my X-passion into writing and drawing this project.”

Unveiling the Story of Mystique #1
Recently, Mystique rekindled her relationship with her wife, Destiny, and forged new bonds with their children, Rogue and Nightcrawler. However, Krakoa’s enemies are plotting a lethal strike against the scattered and disorganized X-Men. Armed with a hit list as extensive as her criminal record, Raven must remind the world of the reasons it despises and fears her.
The premise for the new From the Ashes series bears a resemblance to the 2003 Mystique series penned by Brian K. Vaughan. The new series, a spy thriller, will thrust Raven Darkholme back into action as a covert agent. This will inevitably lead her to confront her old nemesis, Nick Fury.
Mark your calendars! Mystique #1 hits comic shops worldwide on October 16, 2024.
