Ryan Reynolds Reveals Why Rob McElhenney’s Cameo Was Removed from Deadpool & Wolverine

Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds has shed light on why his fellow actor and friend Rob McElhenney’s cameo was axed from the blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine.

Reynolds and McElhenney, who jointly own the football club Wrexham A.F.C. and feature in the FX documentary series Welcome to Wrexham, share a close bond. McElhenney had a scene in the 2024 release of Deadpool & Wolverine, portraying a Time Variance Authority (TVA) agent. However, this scene didn’t make it to the final cut of the film, which is currently screening in theaters across the United States.

Reynolds took to Instagram to share the reasons behind the decision to exclude McElhenney’s scene from the theatrical release of the Marvel Studios film.

Ryan Reynolds’ take on Rob McElhenney’s axed cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine?

Reynolds penned, “Rob graciously agreed to a cameo in #DeadpoolAndWolverine, which we hope will be featured in the digital extras. They say in film editing, you ‘sometimes have to kill your darlings.’ Regrettably, I had to do just that with this cameo…

“The sequence didn’t pan out as we had initially envisioned. Rob’s presence was the sole reason it remained in the cut for as long as it did. Even under a TVA mask and helmet, his raw talent, sharp wit, and undeniable swagger were palpable. And don’t get me started on Wrexham. My love for @wrexham_afc wouldn’t exist without Rob McElhenney.

“Making this movie was a labor of love, but not without its share of stress. The weight of expectation was immense — and I firmly believe that ‘Expectation’ is the most formidable villain in cinema history. In such stressful times, the presence of friends is comforting. Despite my embarrassment that he flew all the way to London for a cameo that didn’t make the cut, I’m grateful for Rob’s support on set. His presence calms me and soothes my nerves. He’s always there for people, and he was there for me.

“*Even as Alioth snatched his unsuspecting body into the air, swallowing him whole, and eventually converting him into Alioth-poo. RIP TVA Soldier. p.s. Rob would make an awesome Hydra Bob @marvelstudios.”
