Alan Tudyk of Creature Commandos Fame Joins the Cast of James Gunn’s Superman

Alan Tudyk has been confirmed to join the star-studded cast of James Gunn’s Superman, although his role remains shrouded in mystery.

Deadline broke the news of Tudyk’s casting. He’s known for voicing Doctor Phosphorus in Creature Commandos, sparking rumors that he might reprise this role in a live-action format for Superman. Adding fuel to the fire, James Gunn has confirmed that actors will maintain their characters across DC projects, as demonstrated by Frank Grillo. However, this hinges on whether Phosphorus survives the events of Creature Commandos.

The Superman film wrapped up shooting in July 2024 and is slated for a 2025 release. Under Gunn’s direction, the film stars David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as the intrepid reporter Lois Lane. The narrative will explore Superman’s journey as he grapples with his Kryptonian heritage and his upbringing in the humble town of Smallville, Kansas.

The ensemble cast is a who’s who of Hollywood, featuring Nicholas Hoult as the cunning Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Supporting roles include Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, and Skyler Gisondo as the eager Jimmy Olsen.

As an added treat, Milly Alcock will make a cameo as Supergirl before taking center stage in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (via Variety). This film marks the beginning of the new DC Universe’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Alan Tudyk’s recent projects include lending his voice to Hei Hei in Moana 2 and reprising his role as K-2SO in Andor season 2. His role in Superman is part of James Gunn’s ambitious plan to reboot the franchise and chart a fresh course for the DC Universe.

Mark your calendars! Superman is set to soar into theaters on July 11, 2025.
