Superman and Lois Season 4 is already making waves by featuring some of Superman‘s most formidable foes. But the emergence of Lex Luthor and Doomsday might just be the tip of the iceberg. A casual comment by Lex Luthor hints at the possible introduction of another iconic DC Comics villain.

In the explosive premiere of Superman and Lois Season 4, Luthor dropped a hint about an employee named Milton, who was tasked with constructing a unique container. Milton delivered, impressing Luthor with his engineering prowess. However, Luthor was cautioned against praising him too much, with the warning that the “last thing that Brainiac needs is this going to his head.”
This intriguing comment is a clear nod to the notorious Superman adversary, Brainiac. But the mention of an engineer named Milton is a clue in itself. In the Post-Crisis DC Universe, Milton Fine was a psychic who later became the host for the alien entity known as Brainiac. The alias Milton Fine was also used by Brainiac when he masqueraded as a human in the Smallville universe.
Could Tom Cavanagh be the Brainiac in Superman and Lois?

The reference to Brainiac might solve another puzzle in Superman and Lois Season 4. For several months, it’s been known that writer/director Tom Cavanagh has been cast in an undisclosed role. Many speculated he would reprise one of his roles from The Flash, either as the Reverse Flash or scientist Harrison Wells.
While this theory seemed plausible, considering the showrunners’ commitment to pay tribute to the Arrowverse in the series finale, it didn’t quite add up why they would introduce the Reverse Flash or even the Timeless Wells variant into the Superman and Lois universe. However, casting Cavanagh as Brainiac would align with his past portrayals of villainous masterminds. Plus, it would perpetuate the ongoing trend of actors playing multiple roles across the Arrowverse.
