Renowned for their captivating adaptations of cherished franchises, IDW Publishing has made a name for itself with comics based on iconic Paramount properties such as Star Trek and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now, they’re venturing into uncharted territory with a spine-chilling new line called IDW Dark. This imprint will unleash a wave of original horror series, as well as spine-tingling comics based on Smile, A Quiet Place, and other Paramount Pictures properties.
The unveiling of the IDW Dark line took place at the New York Comic Con 2024, a fitting announcement given the impending Halloween season. Alongside the announcement of their continued partnership with Paramount, IDW also revealed two upcoming horror series set to launch the new line. The first is a blood-curdling sequel to the vampire horror tale 30 Days of Night, aptly named “Falling Sun.” The second is Rite of Spring, a chilling follow-up to the Eisner Award-winning Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees.
“Horror is omnipresent, both in the world and on the shelves,” proclaimed IDW Group Editor Maggie Howell. “So, what makes IDW Dark unique? Horror is in our DNA. This imprint is our commitment to amplifying the work we’ve been doing for the past 25 years as a leading publisher of horror comics.”
Which Paramount Properties are set to receive the IDW Dark treatment?
In addition to the sequels mentioned earlier, IDW Dark will continue to churn out more independent works. However, the imprint will initially lean heavily into the publisher’s partnership with Paramount. This will result in comics based on a variety of Paramount Pictures and Paramount Television series.
Comics inspired by Smile, A Quiet Place, The Twilight Zone, Sleepy Hollow, and Event Horizon are reportedly in the pipeline. However, it remains unclear whether these comics will be regular series, miniseries, or one-shot specials. Horror enthusiasts should stay tuned for more thrilling details about the IDW Dark line in 2025.
