With Venom 3, Sony not only bid adieu to Tom Hardy’s portrayal of the iconic anti-hero but also unveiled the menacing Knull to the audience. Despite his fleeting appearance, the King in Black, voiced by the talented Andy Serkis, left an indelible impression on viewers. Known for his exceptional ability to breathe life into CGI characters, Serkis played a pivotal role in showcasing Knull’s formidable power. Consequently, there’s a growing buzz around the possibility of Serkis reprising his role as the symbiote god in future MCU projects. So, the question arises – will we see Andy Serkis return as Knull?
Here’s the scoop on what we know about Serkis’ future as the alien supervillain in the Marvel universe.
Will Andy Serkis reprise his role as Knull in the MCU?
As of now, there’s no official confirmation about Andy Serkis returning as Knull. However, several signs suggest that this might become a reality sooner than we think.
During a chat with Screen Rant at the FAN EXPO San Francisco 2024, The Batman star revealed that he was brought on board to play Knull in Venom 3 at the eleventh hour. Serkis also addressed the speculation about his return as Knull, saying, “There was talk of, ‘This could go on…He’s quite a big character,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, I know that.’ Well, let’s see what happens, actually,” he said.
In an earlier interview with ComicBookMovie.com’s Josh Wilding, Venom 3 director Kelly Marcel shared that she and Tom Hardy had always envisioned Andy Serkis as Knull. Praising the British actor’s prowess, Marcel said, “We always knew it would be Andy. We love Andy, and it felt right. We’ve brought most of our team along with us for all three of these movies, so we really want to keep it as a family. Andy is a massive part of the Venom family.”
Given the statements by Andy Serkis and Kelly Marcel, the rumors of Serkis returning as Knull, especially in the MCU, seem plausible. However, there’s no official word yet on the inclusion of any character from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe in the MCU.
