Rare Marvel Tales Reprinted in New Rom and the X-Men Collection

Get ready for an epic crossover! Marvel Comics has just announced Rom and the X-Men: Marvel Tales #1, a thrilling collection that brings together Rom the Spaceknight and the X-Men for the very first time.

Coming to comic shops this December as part of Marvel’s exciting partnership with Hasbro, Rom and the X-Men: Marvel Tales #1 is a must-read. This incredible book gathers Rom #17-18 and Rom #31-32, showcasing Rom’s initial encounters with the Children of the Atom and so much more! Written by the talented Bill Mantlo and illustrated by the amazing Sal Buscema, these issues were originally part of Rom’s groundbreaking solo series at Marvel.

Prepare to be blown away by the stunning cover art for Rom and the X-Men: Marvel Tales #1, created by the talented Nick Bradshaw:

“During his classic adventures hunting the vile Dire Wraiths on Earth, Rom found himself entangled in the world of mutants as he joined forces with the Uncanny X-Men, battled against the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and even played a pivotal role in Rogue’s journey towards heroism,” Marvel revealed in its official announcement.

Marvel continued, “In ROM (1979) #17-18, Rom and the X-Men embark on a quest to locate Hybrid, the offspring of a Dire Wraith and a human, who Cerebro has identified as a mutant! But as they clash over their target, Rom gets a taste of his own medicine thanks to the feisty Kitty Pryde! Then, in ROM (1979) #31-32, our Galadorian hero faces off against Mystique’s villainous mutant team, including the future X-Men member, Rogue, before ultimately teaming up with them for a thrilling rematch against Hybrid!”

Rom omnibus editions launch in 2024

But that’s not all! December’s Rom and the X-Men: Marvel Tales #1 is just the beginning. Marvel has big plans to bring back these mutant-centric stories. They have already announced Rom: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, set to hit shelves in January and June 2024 respectively. The first hardcover omnibus volume will collect Rom #1-29, along with Power Man and Iron Fist #73. The second volume will continue the excitement, featuring Rom #30-50, Rom Annual #1-2, and Marvel Two-in-One #99.

For those unfamiliar with Rom, the original toy was designed by the talented Bing McCoy for Parker Brothers. Marvel Comics then acquired the license for the character, leading to the launch of Rom: Spaceknight (later shortened to simply Rom) in 1979. The series ran for an impressive 75 issues and four annuals, concluding in 1985. In 2016, IDW Publishing took up the mantle and released a new line of Rom comics, licensed from Hasbro, who had acquired Parker Brothers in 1991.

Don’t miss out on the excitement! Rom and the X-Men: Marvel Tales #1 will be available for purchase on Wednesday, December 20, from Marvel Comics.
