ChatGPT to Gain Visual and Auditory Capabilities in Latest AI Update

Exciting news from OpenAI! They have just announced a game-changing update called the “multimodal” update. In a recent blog post, OpenAI revealed that they will be introducing new voice and image features to their paid subscription versions of ChatGPT (Plus and Enterprise) over the next two weeks.

While there is no specific mention of when these features will be available for free versions, OpenAI assures users that they will be made accessible to other groups of users “soon after.”

What makes this update even more intriguing is that it seems to bring ChatGPT closer to popular virtual assistants like Siri and Alexa. Just like these assistants, ChatGPT will now be able to provide information in response to your questions.

But here’s the thing: ChatGPT is not your ordinary search engine. It’s an AI that goes beyond simply retrieving information. It can identify patterns, offer creative solutions to complex problems, and express them in a conversational manner.

But that’s not all! The new image features introduced by OpenAI will take things to a whole new level. Imagine being able to have a live conversation about a landmark by simply snapping a picture while traveling. Or using pictures of your fridge and pantry to figure out what’s for dinner, complete with step-by-step recipe instructions. You can even help your child with a math problem by taking a photo, circling the problem set, and receiving helpful hints.

OpenAI believes that this development will open doors to many creative and accessibility-focused applications. However, they also acknowledge the new risks it brings, such as the potential for impersonation or fraud by malicious actors.

For now, the update will only allow voice chat with AI that has been trained with specific voice actors. So, while you won’t be able to request something like “Read this IFLScience article in the voice of Stephen Hawking” just yet, it’s clear that the capabilities of current AI technology are constantly expanding.
