Report: Jason Momoa’s Lobo DCU Casting Set to Be Revealed in 2024

Jason Momoa has been the subject of much speculation regarding his future in the DCU. But according to a recent report, he’s not leaving, just taking on a different role.

During a recent episode of The Hot Mic podcast, co-host Jeff Sneider addressed the rumors that Momoa would no longer be playing Aquaman. Instead, he revealed that Momoa will be portraying Lobo in the newly formed DCU going forward.

Sneider not only acknowledged the rumors, but he also confirmed them, stating that Momoa has been cast as Lobo. He expects an official announcement to be made in early 2024, most likely in February.

“It is true, Jason Momoa is Lobo,” said Sneider. “Done. Jason Momoa has been cast as Lobo, and that will be officially announced, most likely, in February.”

Sneider clarified that the delayed announcement has nothing to do with the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Instead, Warner Bros. Discovery wants to wait until the theatrical run of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, in which Momoa stars as Aquaman, has concluded.

What do we know about Momoa’s future in the DCU?

Rumors have been circulating for months about Momoa potentially leaving the DC Universe or taking on a different role, such as stepping down as Aquaman to play Lobo. Earlier this year, DC Studios co-head Peter Safran commented on Momoa’s future, expressing his belief that Momoa will remain a part of the DCU “for many years to come,” whether as Aquaman or another character.

Momoa himself hinted at a possible change at the beginning of the year, stating that he would “always be” Aquaman but may explore other characters in the future. He also mentioned having had positive discussions with Warner Bros. Discovery and teased that he had “great news” to share at some point.

However, nothing is set in stone until the studio officially confirms it.
