Scarlett Johansson has responded to rumors about the return of Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in the MCU.
Johansson made an appearance on The Today Show on Monday, November 13, 2023, where she was asked about recent rumors suggesting that Marvel Studios might bring Black Widow back to life after her demise in Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
“I feel like Avengers: Endgame was the end, right? Can you really come back? Maybe it could be a vampire version of the character? Because I’m totally up for that. Or maybe a zombie version,” she playfully remarked.

During her conversation with TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie, Johansson expressed that bringing Black Widow back would be nothing short of a “miracle.”
“It would be a miracle,” she commented. “It would be a real Marvel miracle. It would be a marvel. But, you know, who knows?”
What are the rumors regarding Black Widow’s MCU return?
In April 2023, before the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike, Johansson told Variety that she was finished playing Natasha Romanoff after the release of the Black Widow prequel movie in 2021.
“I’m done,” she said. “Chapter is over. I did all that I had to do. Also coming back and playing a character again and again, over a decade of time, is such a unique experience.”
On November 1, 2023, Variety reported that Marvel was considering bringing back the cast of The Avengers from 2012, including Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, and Chris Evans, for another Avengers film.
During the Las Vegas premiere of The Marvels, Kevin Feige spoke with Entertainment Tonight and addressed the potential return of Johansson and Downey Jr. for another Marvel project.
“We’re doing a project with Scarlett,” he said. “I love Robert, who is part of the family. In terms of returning, we’ll have to see.”
