Hasbro Ends Selfie Series Personalized Figures

Get ready for some surprising toy news! Hasbro has just canceled its Selfie Series personalized action figures, right when they were about to release their “version 2.0” improvements. This line featured popular figure bodies from Star Wars, Marvel, G.I. Joe, and Ghostbusters, with a unique head sculpt based on scans users took with their phone cameras and a specialized app.

Life in Plastic…Not Fantastic?

Ghostbusters News was the first to bring this story to our attention. In an email exchange, a Hasbro publicist shared the following message with Superhero Hype, which was also sent to Rebelscum.com:

“Thank you for reaching out about Hasbro’s Selfie Series. We have decided to discontinue the Selfie Series platform and it has been removed from the Hasbro Pulse app. We also want to inform you that we are no longer accepting new orders for Hasbro Selfie Series figures. If you have already placed an order and need further assistance, please contact Hasbro Pulse. We appreciate the support and enthusiasm shown by all the fans who participated in this innovative personalization platform.”

The Selfie Series did face some challenges. The price point was higher than what fans were used to, although Hasbro often offered discounts. Additionally, phone scans could never match the accuracy of proper scanning booths. Furthermore, the range of figures available did not include many women or plus-sized body types. However, technology is constantly improving, and the 2.0 upgrade introduced important details like facial hair and glasses. Hasbro had previously marketed 12-inch personalized figures made from scanning booths in select stores, but those were also only available for a limited time.

If Hasbro couldn’t make it economically viable, it’s unlikely that anyone else will attempt it anytime soon. But don’t worry, fans of customized plastic figures can still create Funko Pops of themselves!
