Preview of Power Girl #6 Reveals United Supergirls

Unraveling the intricate relationship between the dynamic duo, Supergirl and Power Girl, is no easy task. Despite being alternate versions of the same individual, their personalities are poles apart. Yet, they must set aside their differences to tackle a peculiar new street drug menace.

Power Girl #6, a riveting creation by Leah Williams and Marguerite Sauvage, introduces us to Avalon. This latest party drug is all the rage among Metropolis’ youth, transporting its users to an imagined fantasy realm beyond reality. The chilling reality, however, is that this might not be mere hallucination. Youngsters across Metropolis are vanishing during these drug-induced trips, failing to return to reality. This alarming situation catches Supergirl’s attention, leading her to enlist Power Girl’s assistance in the investigation.

Decoding the Power Girl/Supergirl Relationship

Power Girl was initially introduced as Superman’s cousin from the parallel world of Earth-2. Her integration into the post-Crisis DC Universe was a result of a complex new backstory. Her original history was reinstated in 2005’s Infinite Crisis, but this left her feeling like an outsider alongside the new Prime Earth’s Supergirl.

Various authors have portrayed the two heroes as having a contentious relationship. This was attributed to the strain of doppelgangers co-existing in the same reality. However, this concept has been discarded in recent times.

In the Dawn of DC era, Kara Danvers and Doctor Paige Stetler have reconciled with their shared past. While they may not share a sisterly bond (as Supergirl would like), their relationship is no longer marked by hostility. Despite Supergirl’s earnest attempts to include her in the Superman Family, Power Girl continues to feel like an outsider.

Power Girl #6 hits the comic shops on February 27, 2024. Don’t miss it!
