Can you believe that Ralph Bakshi’s fantasy films, Wizards and Fire and Ice, were once rated PG? Despite featuring female characters who were scantily clad to the point of being chilly, the MPAA seemed to turn a blind eye, as long as it was animated and had a hint of modesty. It’s akin to the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. Consequently, mainstream retailers might hesitate to stock action figures that accurately depict these films. However, in today’s digital age, bespoke figures are readily available online, albeit at a higher price due to their limited production and unique designs.
Ice Queen
The family of Frank Frazetta, the late fantasy art legend, has already released an action figure based on Fire and Ice, a film he collaborated on with Bakshi. Now, it’s time for the second figure, Teegra, who harks back to the “bad girls” action figure trend of the late ’90s. While many of these figures had mediocre designs and relied on male collectors’ desire for any sexy female figure, Teegra is a cut above. Despite her higher price tag, her detailed sculpting surpasses even the rotoscoped character from the film.
At $70, this 6-inch figure comes with a plethora of accessories, despite her character often appearing to have very little. Included is her panther, Shaitan, with two interchangeable heads. Teegra herself comes with two different heads and three different faces, and fans can add a touch more modesty with an additional translucent shawl and loin skirt. Her arsenal includes a tree-branch dagger, knife, and spear, while Shaitan boasts jaw and tail articulation.
Preorders are now open, with a limit of five per person and an expected delivery in July. If you’re more interested in browsing than buying, feel free to check out the official images below.
