Xbox has unveiled its fourth Transparency Report, shedding light on its ongoing efforts to safeguard players and combat toxicity. The report highlights the company’s investment in AI technology to enhance detection capabilities. It also provides an update on the effectiveness of recently launched safety tools, including the voice reporting feature.
The report reveals that Xbox’s early AI investments include Auto Labeling, a tool that identifies potentially harmful words and phrases, helping moderators sift through false reports more efficiently. Another tool, Image Pattern Matching, uses databases and image matching techniques to spot harmful imagery, enabling quicker removal by moderators.
The report also shares some success metrics of its new safety features. For instance, the voice reporting feature has resulted in 138,000 voice captures. Impressively, 98% of reported players who received an Enforcement Strike did not repeat their behavior. The report also touches on the Enforcement Strike system, launched in August 2023, revealing that 88% of players who received a strike did not receive another. Most enforcements were for cheating or inauthentic accounts, according to the report.
Looking ahead, Xbox plans to introduce more safety innovations. These include the Family Toolkit, designed to help parents and caretakers make the most of Xbox’s safety and family-friendly features. The company is also inviting users to share their online experiences through its Global Online Safety Survey and offering a kid-friendly safety lesson within Minecraft Education called CyberSafe: Good Game.
