Feast your eyes on Demián Bichir, star of ‘The Nun’
Get ready for a thrilling ride! Universal and Blumhouse are set to release the much-anticipated sequel The Black Phone 2 in theaters on October 17, 2025. Tonight, Deadline revealed that the talented Demián Bichir (The Nun) has been added to the star-studded cast.
The dynamic duo, Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, will be the creative minds behind the writing and production of the upcoming sequel, with Derrickson also taking the director’s chair. The original movie was a gripping adaptation of Joe Hill’s short story.
Hold on to your seats because Ethan Hawke is reprising his role as The Grabber. We’ll also see familiar faces like Mason Thames (How to Train Your Dragon, Incoming), Madeleine McGraw (Toy Story 4, Secrets of Sulphur Springs), Jeremy Davies (Justified) and Miguel Mora (The Black Phone) returning to the screen.
In the chilling first film, we saw Finney (Thames), a smart yet introverted 13-year-old boy, being kidnapped by a sadistic killer (Hawke) and trapped in a soundproof basement where his screams fell on deaf ears.
The plot thickens when a disconnected phone on the wall starts ringing, and Finney realizes he can hear the voices of the killer’s past victims. These spectral voices are determined to prevent Finney from sharing their fate. The film was a product of the creative collaboration between Derrickson & Cargill’s Crooked Highway and Universal and Blumhouse.
In her review of The Black Phone for Bloody Disgusting, Meagan praised, “Derrickson and Cargill successfully reincarnate the same elements and structure of Sinister to morph Joe Hill’s short into a full-length nightmare filled with ghostly children, intense violence, and a trio of unforgettable performances.”
With a whopping $161 million at the worldwide box office last year, The Black Phone certainly gave audiences a good scare.

Get ready for a spine-chilling experience from the masterminds behind the found footage movie The Houses October Built. They’re back with a new horror short, Will Helm, featuring the talented Spencer Charnas from Ice Nine Kills.
Directed by the visionary Bobby Roe and penned by the creative duo Zack Andrews & Bobby Roe, Will Helm is set to hit the festival circuit this Halloween season. And we’ve got an exclusive sneak peek just for you.
The plot of Will Helm is shrouded in mystery, but it’s set to premiere at Sitges and Screamfest next month. It will also be featured at the Knoxville Horror Film Fest, followed by an anniversary screening of Wes Craven’s New Nightmare at the festival’s drive-in segment.
From what we can tell, Will Helm has an unofficial A Nightmare on Elm Street element and serves as a meta tribute to the Wes Craven classic.
Bobby Roe shared with Bloody Disgusting, “We hope to follow in the footsteps of Smile, Night Swim and Lights Out. All these films started as horror shorts and found great success in expanding their stories. We aim to do the same. Will Helm is more of a proof of concept than a traditional short film, similar to De Palma’s Blow Out or Mute Witness.”
“Both Spencer Charnas (Ice Nine Kills) and Mara Marini (Parks & Rec) deliver riveting performances, and I can’t wait to explore why we get goosebumps when we’re scared,” Roe continued. He also hinted, “We made sure to use all practical effects, and Rob Hinderstein (Jurassic Park, Haunted Mansion) did not disappoint.”
