The Last Halloween #1: A New Chapter in the Long Halloween Saga

First published as 13 monthly issues in 1996, The Long Halloween was the sequel to three Halloween specials by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale for Legends of the Dark Knight. Despite being overshadowed by The Long Halloween, these specials were significant in their own right. Loeb’s script seamlessly integrated into the timeline established by Batman: Year One and provided a fresh perspective on Harvey Dent’s transformation into Two-Face. Tim Sale’s evocative artistry further enhanced the allure of the story. The Long Halloween’s success led to two direct sequels, Dark Victory and Catwoman: When In Rome.

Although Tim Sale passed away in 2022, he and Loeb collaborated on one last Halloween special. This story paved the way for The Last Halloween, which Loeb wrote as a tribute to Sale. Eduardo Risso’s artwork, reminiscent of Sale’s style, perfectly complements the original series’ aesthetic.
