Josh Brolin Confirms Discussions about Green Lantern Role, Commends Kyle Chandler for Hal Jordan Portrayal

Josh Brolin has officially announced that he will not be stepping into the shoes of Hal Jordan for HBO’s highly anticipated Green Lantern series, aptly named Lanterns. Despite early rumors tying Brolin to the project, the actor has now revealed that negotiations “didn’t pan out.” With Kyle Chandler now potentially in the running for the role, the series continues to be a crucial part of DC Studios’ forthcoming lineup.

Josh Brolin Reveals ‘Green Lantern’ Negotiations Fell Through

Josh Brolin recently made it clear that his discussions to portray Hal Jordan in HBO’s Lanterns series “didn’t pan out.”

In a candid chat with ComicBook, Brolin shared, “You know what? Green Lantern didn’t work out, but that’s okay. It’s working out. Is it going to be Kyle Chandler? I admire him as an actor, I think he’s fantastic, actually. And, you know, we’ll see what the future holds, man.”

Lanterns is an upcoming series brought to you by HBO in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. The series will spotlight Hal Jordan and John Stewart, two Green Lanterns who find themselves embroiled in a murder mystery set in the heart of America. The project is being helmed by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, with Mundy taking on the role of the showrunner. The show is being touted as a detective story, a refreshing departure from the usual superhero narratives.

Josh Brolin has made it official that he will not be portraying Hal Jordan. Kyle Chandler, celebrated for his performances in Friday Night Lights and Bloodline, is reportedly in talks for the role. Lanterns is a part of a grander scheme to launch a cohesive DC Universe, with James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm of the strategy.

The series is slated to premiere after Gunn’s Superman film next summer, marking a significant milestone in DC’s fresh roster of content. The emphasis on the investigative angle of the Green Lanterns sets Lanterns apart as a distinctive addition to the superhero genre.
