Get ready for a thrilling ride with Amazing Spider-Man #61, one of the most eagerly awaited Marvel Comics of 2024. The excitement is palpable, thanks to the dynamic duo of Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness, who have previously won hearts with their work on Spider-Man and their iconic Deadpool series. This issue is particularly special as it marks the beginning of the riveting 8 Deaths of Spider-Man event.

Contrary to expectations, the issue starts off on a rather ordinary note with Peter Parker’s day being thrown off by the antics of a novice villain named Burnout. However, things take a dramatic turn when Doctor Doom selects the Amazing Spider-Man to help him with a cosmic crisis.
Take a sneak peek at the main cover and the first six pages of Amazing Spider-Man #61 below.

A New Chapter Begins with Amazing Spider-Man #61
The initial pages of Amazing Spider-Man #61 set the stage for new readers, introducing them to Peter Parker’s challenging life. Despite his spider-like abilities, Peter struggles with money, time, and a complicated love life. Yet, he remains a kind-hearted individual, caring for his Aunt May and helping others, both in and out of his Spider-Man suit.
It’s Peter’s inherent goodness that leads Doctor Doom to choose him as his champion. Not because Doom admires his nobility, but because he knows Peter won’t back down from a challenge. As the Sorcerer Supreme, Peter must face an annual battle against a dark god and his followers for control over Earth, a task previously undertaken by Doctor Strange, but deemed insignificant by Doom.
Fortunately, Peter won’t be facing this daunting task empty-handed. Doctor Doom equips him with a new suit and eight extra lives. However, the fact that Doom foresaw the need for these extra lives and even with the new suit, victory is far from guaranteed.
