Hold on to your capes, superhero fans! The initial scores for the much-anticipated Creature Commandos have landed on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, hinting at a spectacular launch for the new DC Universe (DCU). The animated series is all set to swoop onto Max on Thursday, December 5, 2024. This long-awaited superhero saga is the brainchild of James Gunn and Peter Safran, marking the beginning of their rebooted DCU with Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
Even before its global premiere, Creature Commandos has been basking in the glow of critical acclaim, as evidenced by its impressive scores on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Creature Commandos has bagged a robust 94% based on 17 reviews. Over on Metacritic, the show boasts a score of 79 from six reviews.
The initial reviews are all praises for Creature Commandos, applauding its meticulous world-building and attention to the tiniest details. Critics are also hailing the series for its captivating storyline, dark undertones, and daring approach.
As the inaugural project for the DCU, Creature Commandos is riding a wave of anticipation. In a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, James Gunn shed light on why this animated series is the ideal launchpad for the universe.
Gunn explained, “Superman is the true start of everything, it’s a humongous epic. This is a way for people to just take a little nibble and see what it tastes like. There are a ton of fun references to other DC stuff, a bunch of hints for things that are coming. So I think it’s just an extraordinarily fun way to start.”
Gunn also drew parallels between the upcoming DCU show and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, which he directed. He quipped, “I’m used to dealing with oddballs and irregular types and weirdos. That’s what Guardians is, and Creature Commandos is kind of like Guardians without the sentimentality.”
Mark your calendars! The show is set to make a grand entrance with a two-episode premiere on December 5.
