DC Hero Long-Awaited by Teen Titans Finally Joins the Team

Get ready for a thrilling addition to the Teen Titans roster later this year! A beloved young superhero, who has garnered a massive fan base among DC Comics enthusiasts, is finally stepping into the limelight. Despite their popularity, this hero has never been a significant part of DC’s most prominent teen superhero team.

Teen Titans Are Finally Adding the DC Hero They’ve Been Missing

The superhero we’re talking about is none other than Static. This electrifying teen hero first made his appearance in Milestone Comics in 1993. He quickly gained popularity through his solo animated series, Static Shock, and was subsequently integrated into the DCAU, even having several crossovers with the Justice League. He also made his mark in the Young Justice animated series. However, except for a brief stint before the 2011 New 52 revamp of DC’s comic line, Static has never been officially linked with the Teen Titans.

DC has announced that this is about to change with the forthcoming New Titans #38. Static will make his grand entrance in the book during an encounter with the young Superman, Jon Kent. This encounter will lead to an exciting mission in the Amazon rainforest, culminating in Static becoming a permanent member of the latest Teen Titans team.

Why Static’s Inclusion in the Titans is a Much-Anticipated Move

Considering the immense popularity of both Static and the Teen Titans, it’s surprising that they haven’t collaborated more outside of animated adaptations. The reason behind this is a mix of unfortunate timing and internal politics.

Static was one of the few teen heroes to have a solo series after the 2011 New 52 revamp. It seemed likely that he would join the new Teen Titans team. However, this particular version of the Titans was not well-received, and Static’s solo book was discontinued before he could make his mark in the new DC Universe.

Further complications arose in 2015 when an attempt was made to reintroduce the Milestone Comics heroes in a new Milestone Universe. Charlotte Fullerton, the widow of Static co-creator Dwayne McDuffie, filed a lawsuit against Milestone Media Group after being excluded from the revived company. At that time, she owned 50% of the shares in the original Milestone Media company. A settlement was eventually reached, and Milestone Returns was launched in 2020. A 2026 special, The Dakota Incident, later clarified how Static and the other Milestone heroes fit into the new DC Universe history.

Static’s induction into the Teen Titans is a long-awaited event. Not only is he one of the most popular and powerful teen heroes in comic history, but his genius intellect and raw energy make him a valuable addition to the New Titans. His enduring popularity among young readers, thanks to reruns of his cartoon and the YA novel based on him, makes him a perfect fit for the Titans. It’s safe to say that Static has more than earned his place among the Titans after all this time.

Mark your calendars! New Titans #38 hits comic shops everywhere on August 19, 2026.
