While the Godzilla franchise is full of incredibly powerful kaiju, some of the monsters don’t quite live up to their fearsome reputations.
Summary
- Mechagodzilla’s win over Godzilla in Godzilla vs. Kong was not a true depiction of his strength, as Godzilla was fatigued and not at full power.
- The 1998 version of Godzilla is the weakest out of all the live-action versions, as he was easily defeated by missiles, unlike other monsters in the franchise.
- Despite being a popular ally, Anguirus is not a strong monster on his own and has been defeated by several other creatures in the Godzilla franchise.
Not every monster in the Godzilla franchise is a force to be reckoned with like the King of the Monsters. Over the course of more than six decades, the world of Godzilla has introduced audiences to a multitude of kaiju, many of which are capable of going toe to toe with him in a fight. However, there are a few in the franchise whose power levels don’t quite live up to their reputations.
Naturally, the Godzilla universe includes both strong and weak monsters. There are clear gaps in power between many of the creatures in the movies, with kaiju like Godzilla, Destoroyah, and King Ghidorah obviously occupying the top spots. Toward the bottom are creatures such as Kamacuras, Minilla, and Ebirah. But it’s not surprising that they’re no match for Godzilla. Interestingly, the franchise also includes a number of monsters whose capabilities are often overestimated. In fact, there are six kaiju from Godzilla’s movies that aren’t nearly as strong as they’re commonly believed to be.
6 Mechagodzilla (MonsterVerse)
In the epic showdown between Godzilla and Mechagodzilla in Godzilla vs. Kong, Mechagodzilla proved to be a formidable opponent. With near victories and stalemates against Godzilla in previous films, Mechagodzilla has established himself as one of the strongest villains in the series. However, while Mechagodzilla managed to defeat Godzilla in their one-on-one fight, it’s important to note that this victory was due to Godzilla’s fatigue. Director Adam Wingard confirmed that Godzilla had already fought Kong twice and expended a significant amount of energy. If Godzilla had been at full strength, the outcome may have been different. So, while Mechagodzilla’s win is impressive, it doesn’t necessarily make him the stronger monster.
Now let’s take a look at some other iconic creatures in the Godzilla universe:
5 Godzilla (1998)
In Roland Emmerich’s 1998 reboot of Godzilla, the iconic monster is portrayed as the weakest version among all the live-action iterations. In the movie, Godzilla is ultimately killed by the military’s missiles. While this may be a common tactic in the Godzilla universe, it’s clear that the 1998 Godzilla wouldn’t stand a chance against any of his Toho counterparts. His power level is significantly lower, making it unlikely for him to defeat any of the formidable foes faced by other versions of Godzilla.
4 Anguirus
Anguirus, known for his loyalty and unique design, is a beloved ally of Godzilla. However, when it comes to raw power, Anguirus falls short. He has been on the receiving end of numerous one-sided battles against Godzilla, Mechagodzilla, Ghidorah, and Gigan. These defeats highlight that Anguirus is far from being a powerhouse in the Godzilla franchise. While he can provide assistance to Godzilla, he has yet to prove himself in single combat against other monsters. It’s clear that Anguirus’ strength lies in his loyalty rather than his fighting abilities.
In the epic battle between Gigan and Ghidorah in Godzilla vs. Gigan, it was Godzilla who emerged victorious. But let’s not forget about another formidable opponent – Mothra. Despite her small size, Mothra has always been a force to be reckoned with. However, the truth is that she has never been able to defeat Godzilla on her own. In their first encounter in Mothra vs. Godzilla, Mothra tragically lost her life. It was only with the help of her offspring that Godzilla was subdued. Even in the Heisei era’s Godzilla vs. Mothra, Mothra had to team up with Battra to take down the mighty Godzilla. She has never stood a chance against him alone.
Unfortunately, Mothra’s record against Godzilla only got worse over time. She was killed by Godzilla in both Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. and Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack. Even in the MonsterVerse, where Mothra was given a stinger to make her more physically threatening, it wasn’t enough to save her. In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, she bravely stabbed Rodan, but was fatally injured by his fire attacks before being obliterated by Ghidorah. Rodan, on the other hand, survived his wounds.
Moving on to another iconic monster, Biollante, she is often regarded as one of the best one-off villains in Godzilla’s movies. With her unique design and tragic origin, Biollante brought a lot to the table in terms of fighting abilities. However, her final battle with Godzilla was surprisingly short compared to other epic showdowns. Despite her compelling character and impressive powers, Biollante couldn’t quite match up to Godzilla.
Lastly, we have King Caesar, a creature that appeared in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. With his majestic appearance, King Caesar certainly made an impression. However, when it came to facing off against Godzilla, he fell short. While King Caesar had his moments, his battle with Godzilla was not as grand as one would expect.
These monsters may have put up a good fight, but when it comes to taking on the King of the Monsters, Godzilla has proven time and time again that he is the ultimate champion.
Prepare to be amazed by the epic showdown in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. While Godzilla takes the spotlight, it’s the human story that truly shines, building up King Caesar as the ultimate hero. Throughout the film, King Caesar is hailed as the mighty savior of humanity, destined to protect civilization from the wrath of Mechagodzilla. And when he finally emerges, he doesn’t disappoint. With his awe-inspiring martial arts moves and devastating mouth beam attack, King Caesar leaves a lasting impression. Fans can’t help but be captivated by his unique fighting style and his thrilling team-up with Godzilla.
However, despite the hype, King Caesar’s performance in the battle falls short of expectations. The movie sets him up to defeat Mechagodzilla, but he is clearly outmatched, relying on Godzilla to carry the weight of the fight. While King Caesar has his shining moments, they are overshadowed by the fact that Godzilla has to come to his rescue. It’s a bittersweet outcome for this fan-favorite kaiju.
Unfortunately, King Caesar’s journey doesn’t get any better. In his only other appearance in Godzilla: Final Wars, he suffers a quick and embarrassing defeat alongside Rodan and Anguirus at the hands of the mighty Godzilla. It’s a disappointing end for a monster with so much potential.
